If you’re new to the area like me you may enjoy seeing the names of towns and cities in the capital District but not know where they came from

If you’ve lived here your whole life you may not know where some of these names came from

Which is why this info graphic found on the Albany sub Reddit is so awesome

I had no idea that Watervliet is Dutch for flowing water

or Voorheesville is named after an old railroad attorney

Did you know that Latham is named after an old hotel owner

and Clifton Park used to be called Shenendehowa and that means grassy plane in Algonquin
