If you’re new to the area like me you may enjoy seeing the names of towns and cities in the capital District but not know where they came from
If you’ve lived here your whole life you may not know where some of these names came from
Which is why this info graphic found on the Albany sub Reddit is so awesome
I had no idea that Watervliet is Dutch for flowing water
or Voorheesville is named after an old railroad attorney
Did you know that Latham is named after an old hotel owner
and Clifton Park used to be called Shenendehowa and that means grassy plane in Algonquin
There’s a lot here check it out and amaze your friends....if were ever allowed to see them again.
