If you are flying for the Thanksgiving holiday and were tasked with bringing some goodies for the meal, the last thing you want is to have to leave them behind. The airports will be packed as always for the week. If you are tasked with bringing your signature dish, don't be "that guy" who holds up the lines even more.
The TSA can answer any specific questions on their Ask TSA Twitter account, but there is a real simple rule to follow when traveling with food: If the food is solid i.e. pie, cake, casserole, it should be carried on...if it can be spilled, spread, poured or sprayed, i.e. gravy, wine and cranberry sauce, it should go in your checked luggage.
