I've always suspect that our dog Cody was scamming me, now I have the proof! I just read this article that said dogs will trick other dogs by doing things like pretending there is something outside so the other dog will get up and look...then they steal there sleeping spot. Turns out they are doing their best to trick humans too.
They did this test where the dogs would lead two different humans to different boxes. One box had a sausage in it, the other had nothing. One of the humans would give the sausage to the dog, the other human would eat it himself. The dogs quickly decided to bring the human who ate the sausage to the empty box while bringing the sharing human to the sausage box.
When we were potty training our dog he would get a treat when he went outside. He also learned to ring a bell to let us know when he had to go outside. Of course now he will ring the bell, run out to the deck and when you aren't looking, run back expecting food. Sorry no dice pal
