Michelle Obama's Classy Farewell

NEW YORK, NY - SEPTEMBER 19: U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama departs after speaking to fellow first ladies, students and guests at Broadway's Jacobs Theater on September 19, 2016 in New York City. The event, called the United Nations General Assembly at Broadway's Jacobs Theater, showcased performances by The Color Purple, Waitress, Beautiful, and Wicked. Late Show host Stephen Colbert emceed the show. The purpose of the event was to continue to raise awareness for the Let Girls Learn initiative, launched by President Obama and First Lady in March 2015, to help adolescent girls around the world go to school and stay in school. Without a doubt everyone is feeling something today. We have had the same family in the White House for 8 years.   That is a long time to some, a blink of an eye to others.   I was talking to our daughter who just turned 16.  She can't remember when there was a President whose last name was other than Obama.  To be honest my mind on that is a bit fuzzy too.

We have a new book and we can't flip ahead to the last page and see how it turns out.  We just need to live it.   I do know that we are watching history.  I don't know about you will be watching the inauguration and following the news reports.  Who knows in about 30 years, a currently unborn grandchild may ask me about it for a 7th grade report. (Side note:  We had better have flying cars by then.  They should have been here years ago)

No matter what side of the political fence you are on today, I am sure you will be feeling a wide range of emotions.  I would ask that you be kind to each other.  It will make a big difference for everyone.

If you'd like to follow history today, we will have hourly updates on 99.5 The River.

I'll end with a tweet that I thought was pretty classy from Michelle Obama posted on twitter.  You can feel a lot of different emotions just in the photo.
