The Secret Meaning Behind Those Colored Tags on Your Bread

Ever wonder why the little tags that hold the bread bag closed are different colors? Me neither. Actually, I am not sure I ever even noticed, but I am certainly going to pay attention now!

I have seen that there is a date on those tags, but I always thought that was when the bread was baked..nope! That is the "sell by" date. The color of the tag is what pertains to the day the bread was actually made.

Here is the little code:

  • Monday – blue
  • Tuesday – green
  • Thursday – red
  • Friday– white
  • Saturday – yellow

Oh, and if this is too difficult to remember, here's a tip: The colors are in alphabetical order by the day of the week!

Who knew?! I'm thrilled! Now when I beat myself up over eating too much bread, at least I can say it was fresh!
