Before Jesse & I got married, I saw a picture my friend posted from a wedding he was a part of. He does photography on the side for events, and always takes great pictures!
This one in particular captured SUCH a beautiful moment... it was of the bride walking down the aisle with her dad. She looked gorgeous, he looked adorable & proud, but in the background almost between their faces was a guest. This wasn't just any old guest taking it all in... it was a guest with a super tacky & bright cell phone cover taking a picture. I was so distracted by this person that I completely forgot what was actually happening!
I sent the picture to Jesse immediately, and told him how I absolutely did NOT want people taking pictures at our ceremony because of this. He agreed (if you know anything about him, he hates attention, so he was all for it), and he designed the sign that you see below (shout out to our fantastic DJ and my friend from high school, Dan, for taking this picture... he was allowed! haha H&H Entertainment is his company).
We were so happy when we looked at our pictures (done by the wonderful & talented Dawn M. Gibson) and didn't see anyone distracted by their cell phones and/or taking pictures. It was so refreshing to see everyone disconnected for a half hour!
If you are on the fence about doing this for your wedding or event, please do NOT hesitate to ask people to refrain from using their phones. I was fine with it at our reception, and generally love the candid ones our friends and family took there, but our ceremony was more than just an event. It was our special day that I'm so glad our loved ones got to take a part in WITHOUT technology.
We are all entitled to our own opinions.... so what do you think of asking people to not use their cell phones during an event or a place you work/own???
Look at all those beautiful people not tweeting/Facebooking/Snapchatting/taking pictures!
Awesome, isn't it???
Dawn M. Gibson Photography rocks my world.
