Remember back in June when summer felt like it was going to last forever?
Yeah… about that.
Now we're looking at the calendar wondering how it’s already almost September.
There are still a few weeks left, though. So before the school schedules, football practices and pumpkin spice take over everything, here are five easy ways to squeeze a little more summer out of summer.
Hack #1: Do One Thing You've Been Putting Off
You know that thing you've been saying you'll do all summer?
The ice cream place.
The day trip.
The baseball game.
The pool you've been meaning to visit.
Pick one and do it.
You don't need a summer bucket list with 47 items. Just knock one thing off the list before the season disappears.
Hack #2: Say Yes to a Last-Minute Plan
Summer is one of the few times of year when you can get a text at 6:30 saying, "Want to come over?" and actually make it happen.
Don't overthink it.
Go grab ice cream.
Take a drive.
Sit around a fire pit.
Sometimes the best summer nights are the ones nobody planned two weeks in advance.
Hack #3: Turn a Weeknight Into a Weekend
You don't need to wait until Saturday.
Eat dinner outside.
Take a walk after sunset.
Get ice cream at 8:30.
Stay outside until somebody finally says, "Okay, we should probably go inside."
It's a Wednesday night. Who cares?
Hack #4: Take the Picture
We're all guilty of this.
We're so busy trying to enjoy the moment that we don't actually take a picture of it.
Take a few.
Not 400.
Get the family picture. Get the sunset. Get the kids doing something ridiculous.
A few years from now, those ordinary summer moments may be the ones you really want to remember.
Hack #5: Don't Try to Cram Everything In
This might be the most important one.
You don't have to squeeze every possible summer activity into the next three weeks.
You don't have to visit every pool, attend every festival, take every day trip or make every weekend "special."
Pick the things you actually enjoy.
And leave some time to do absolutely nothing.
That's still summer.
The Bottom Line
Summer doesn't end when the calendar says it does.
It ends when we stop taking advantage of the time we have.
So go get the ice cream.
Take the drive.
Stay outside a little later.
And enjoy these last few weeks before somebody asks you to help find a pumpkin spice candle.
