It has been discussed for a very long time that Disney's Splash Mountain needed a makeover. Of course the ride is based on the 1946 animated film Song of the South, a movie that Disney won't even release today because of how controversial it is, it is long overdue for a little makeover.
Now here we are in 2020 and it looks like that is going to happen.
GMA reports that Disney will be updating the ride to be reimagined in the world of The Princess and the Frog. It makes sense to me since this beloved movie doesn't have a whole lot of representation at the Disney parks.
Personally I think they should have reimagined this ride in A Goofy Movie where Max and Goofy are going over the waterfall, but I realized long ago that wasn't going to happen.
You can see from the concept art above how it will look. It will feel right at home in Disney World right on the river near Tom Sawyer's Island.
No actual dates yet for when they will be redoing the ride, but the original Splash Mountain ride will still be there when they reopen later this summer.
