Angel Cruz, 10, of Shokan, a hamlet in the Catskill Mountains, is a talkative and energetic boy who was diagnosed in December 2020 with acute lymphoblastic leukemia after experiencing stomach pain. His father, Jesus, currently drives his son nearly one-and-a-half hours several days a week to receive treatment at the Melodies Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders at Albany Med. Jesus describes his son as “a good kid, a tough kid.” Angel is in 5th grade, enjoys video games (FortNite and Roblox are his personal favorites), doodling and flying paper airplanes.
