A touring rock band made it to its next concert after a stranger loaned them his vehicle when their van broke down on a rural highway in Wisconsin. The Autumn Kings had just finished performing at Rock Fest in Chippewa Valley and faced a two-day repair, even though they had only 10 hours to reach the Upheaval Festival in Grand Rapids, Michigan, about 500 miles away.
A 60-year-old man named Ernie stopped to help and gave the band the keys to his Ford Explorer for several days so they could complete the trip and finish their tour. The Detroit-based band later shared on social media, "The kindness of this one man restored our faith in humanity." Autumn Kings frontman Jake Diab called it "one of the biggest acts of kindness" they had experienced.
After returning the truck, the band asked Ernie why he had helped them. He explained that he just did it “to help three strangers on the side of the road," adding that he’d never met a live band before. The group says that their performance at the festival became "the greatest show of our career."
