A team of volunteer firefighters in north-central Pennsylvania spent more than four hours carrying an exhausted 100-pound dog down a mountain after she became too tired to continue hiking. The senior dog, Sable, was nearly two miles from the trailhead on the Golden Eagle Trail when her owner called for help.
The six firefighters placed Sable in a rescue basket and carefully carried her over the steep terrain, stopping to give her water and letting her walk short stretches when she was able. "She was a sweet girl, and she really, really needed us desperately, so we were happy to be there for her," firefighter Tiffany Young says.
After reaching the trailhead, Sable was reunited with her owner and is expected to make a full recovery. The Waterville Volunteer Fire Company later shared the story on social media, saying they are proud to help both people and their four-legged friends.
