Residents of the Capital Region should brace for a potentially slippery evening commute today (February 18) due to a winter weather advisory issued by the National Weather Service. The advisory is in effect from noon today until 4 a.m. tomorrow, with a mix of snow and rain expected to arrive this afternoon.
According to the latest forecasts, the storm will start with a mix of rain and snow, transitioning to all snow by the afternoon, with snowfall continuing into early Thursday morning. Areas north of Albany are expected to receive the highest snowfall totals, while other locations may see between one and three inches of snow before the storm system moves out. Additionally, areas south of Interstate 90 could experience a light glaze of ice, further complicating travel conditions.
The biggest travel impact is anticipated during the evening commute, with hazardous conditions potentially affecting roadways. Drivers are advised to slow down and exercise caution while traveling. Southern areas like Greene and Columbia Counties can expect mostly rain.
As the week progresses, the weather pattern may continue with the potential for more snow and rain on Friday. For the latest alerts and forecasts, tune into News Radio 103.1 and 810 WGY.
