The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for Albany and surrounding counties, effective from 7 p.m. this evening until 8 a.m. Thursday (November 6). Residents should prepare for west winds of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts potentially reaching up to 60 mph.
According to the National Weather Service, these conditions could lead to power outages and make travel difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles. The strongest winds are expected to occur in a short window of two to four hours tonight, with gusty conditions continuing into the early morning hours on Thursday.
The warning covers several counties, including Herkimer, Fulton, Montgomery, Saratoga, Schoharie, Schenectady, Albany, Rensselaer, Greene, Columbia, Ulster, and Washington. The weather service advises residents to seek shelter and exercise caution if driving.
