Lizzo credits three meals as a major factor in her weight loss success.
The "Good As Hell" hitmaker recently sat down with Women's Health to discuss both her mental and physical well-being, outlining the steps she took to improve her health.
One of the first things she did when she noticed her mental health declining was take a break from social media to eliminate validation from external sources.
"My validation was from external sources, people telling me they loved me, or that I look good, and accepting me. It helped me build self-confidence. But if that’s all I’m getting my validation from, when it changes—and it will, because people are not always going to like you—what happens? Where are you going to get your love from? I can convince myself that I’m beautiful, my body fine, no matter how big or small. But reminding myself that you can’t let others tell you who you are—that was hard work."
Lizzo explained that she had embraced body confidence regardless of her size, but persistent back pain made her realize it was time to adjust her lifestyle. Initially, she was trying to be "big-girl skinny. Every big girl knows what I’m talking about. Big-girl skinny is 250 pounds."
So she formulated a workout plan with her friend and fitness inspiration, Kelly Rowland, got rid of caffeine (to ease symptoms of anxiety), and ditched her plant-based diet for nutrient-dense, protein-packed meals.
The "About Damn Time" artist starts her day with "two scrambled eggs, chicken sausage, and a cauliflower hash brown." For lunch, she enjoys "shredded Thai chicken salad or lettuce wraps stuffed with tuna or sliced chicken breast." When it comes time for dinner each day, Lizzo prefers to eat "turkey meatloaf with cauliflower mashed potatoes and green beans" before 5:00 p.m.
If she wants a snack, she consumes "low-sugar Greek yogurt with blueberries or blackberries and a little honey on top."
