Fans were looking forward to seeing Nicki Minaj hit the red carpet for the 2021 Met Ball, but just before the start of fashion's biggest night, the Barb revealed that she tested positive for COVID-19 and would not be able to attend the gala. When one fan took to Twitter to express their disappointment that Nicki's last public appearance was over a year ago, the "Yikes" rapper responded,
"I have an infant with no nannies during COVID. who mad? Not risking his health to be seen. One yaself."
Minaj went on to reveal that she contract the virus during a video shoot after prepping for the VMAs. She tweeted,
"Love u babe. I was prepping for vmas then i shot a video & guess who got COVID? Do u know what it is not to be able to kiss or hold your tiny baby for over a week? “get vaccinated” Drake had just told me he got covid w|THE VACCINE tho so chile"
But Nicki didn't stop there. She went on to reveal that vaccination was a requirement at this year's Met Gala, further leading to her decision not to attend this year's event.
"They want you to get vaccinated for the Met. if I get vaccinated it won’t for the Met. It’ll be once I feel I’ve done enough research. I’m working on that now. In the meantime my loves, be safe. Wear the mask with 2 strings that grips your head & face. Not that loose one."
Despite her personal preferences, Nicki did encourage her followers to do what is best for them individually, adding, "Just pray on it & make sure you’re comfortable with ur decision, not bullied."
