Kristen Bell Is Worried Disney Princesses Teach The Wrong Lessons

Just because Kristen Bell voiced Princess Anna in the blockbuster animated film Frozen, doesn't mean she's totally on board with every Disney princess that came before. When it comes to some of Disney's earlier princess movies, Bell isn't so sure they're teaching young girls, including her two daughters, the right lessons. While some mom's -like Keira Knightly-have decided to completely ban their kids from watching these earlier movies, Bell is using them as a teaching moment for Delta and Lincoln.

In conversation with Parents magazine, Bell revealed that she reads to her daughters every night. Even though she doesn't agree with many of the plot points in Snow White, her girls still enjoy reading the book version of the classic Disney film. "Every time we close Snow White I look at my girls and ask, ‘Don’t you think it’s weird that Snow White didn’t ask the old witch why she needed to eat the apple? Or where she got that apple?’ I say, ‘I would never take food from a stranger, would you?’ And my kids are like, ‘No!’ And I’m like, ‘Okay, I’m doing something right,’" Bell explained.

She also uses the story's famous climax - the prince saving Snow White by kissing her while she sleeps - as a teachable moment for her young daughters. She asks Delta and Lincoln: “Don’t you think that it’s weird that the prince kisses Snow White without her permission? Because you cannot kiss someone if they’re sleeping!"

It makes sense that Bell would take the time to teach her daughters these important life lessons. "I look at my child's brain like a hungry stomach," she told Parents magazine. "I have to feed it every day. Even if I'm rushed, I have to feed their brain just like I feed their belly."
