ABC Confirms 'The Conners' Spinoff Without Roseanne Barr

Weeks after ABC canceled the "Roseanne" reboot after the show's star, Roseanne Barr, tweeted a racist message about Former President Barack Obama aide Valerie Jarrett, the entertainment network is confirming that a new spinoff is on the way.

This new TV series will be called "The Conners." As you possibly have already guessed, the show will include other members of the Conner family minus Roseanne. "Roseanne Barr will have no financial or creative involvement in the new series," ABC said in a press release.

According to CNN, ABC and the show's production company, Carsey Werner, have been working hard together to try and come up with some type of deal for a spinoff almost immediately after "Roseanne" was shut down. When that first series was canceled, over 200 writers and other staff members lost their jobs. However, many people -- including the show's other stars like John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf and Sara Gilbert -- wanted to find a way for the show to go on without Barr.

"We have received a tremendous amount of support from fans of our show, and it's clear that these characters not only have a place in our hearts, but in the hearts and homes of our audience," the three actors said in a joint statement on Thursday (June 21) night.

Barr issued a new statement last night, as well. The controversial comedian said that she regrets "the circumstances that have caused me to be removed" from the show. "I agreed to the settlement in order that 200 jobs of beloved cast and crew could be saved, and I wish the best for everyone involved."

ABC ordered 10 episodes for "The Conners." It will premiere sometime in fall 2018.
