Elton John Performs At Prince Harry & Meghan Markle's Lunchtime Reception

After Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made it official as the new Duke and Duchess of Sussex at St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle, they were off in a horse-drawn carriage to attend a royal lunch hosted by Queen Elizabeth II with musical entertainment by Sir Elton John.

The reception, which hosted about 600 guests, featured music from John, and it seems like the request for his performance was made by Prince Harry, who asked the superstar to offer up entertainment duties during the meal. "Sir Elton John has performed at the Lunchtime Reception for guests celebrating the Wedding of Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle," Kensington Palace said in a statement on Saturday. "Prince Harry asked Sir Elton to perform at the Reception which was hosted by Her Majesty The Queen at St George's Hall, Windsor Castle. Sir Elton performed for the newly married couple in recognition of the close connection he has with Prince Harry and his family."

TMZ broke the news on Wednesday (May 16), confirming his appearance at the highly-anticipated engagement. John originally had Las Vegas shows booked this week, but they were moved due to a "scheduling conflict" and now we know the reason why.

John has a long history with the royal family given his close relations with the late Princess Diana. The pair previously worked together to raise money for AIDS research and awareness of the disease. He was also a huge support system for Prince Harry and Prince William when Diana passed away in 1997. In case you don’t remember, the industry staple famously performed "Candle in the Wind" as a tribute to Diana at her funeral.
