The confederate flag has long been a point of controversy in our county. Originally representing the Southern States who broke away from the United States to fight in the Civil War it is now a symbol of many hate and extremist groups.
With the outcry for racial equality and an end to violence against the black community many are once again calling to stop the use of the confederate flag.
On Friday the United States Marines took a major stance against the use of the confederate flag and released new guidelines. In their tweet they said:
The Confederate battle flag has all too often been co-opted by violent extremist and racist groups whose divisive beliefs have no place in our Corps.
This would ban the use of the Confederate flag on several things like bumper stickers, clothing, coffee/beer mugs, posters, flags and more.
Some have argued that it is just a symbol of Southern pride, but I would have to disagree with that. What the south did was try to leave the country and in doing so made themselves traitors. They tried to rebel and lost. In no other country that I am aware does that stand for a point of pride. It's time for this flag to go. Let it be remembered as history and only that. It has no place in present day America.
