An 11-year old Albany boy is facing charges after Albany Police say he assaulted a 58-year old school bus driver on the bus, after the driver tried to break up a fight.

The 11-year old was fighting with another boy and then turned and shoved the driver down the bus’s steps and then punched him in the head, police said. In New York State it is a felony to cause physical injury to a bus driver. The driver was taken to St. Peter's Hospital for evaluation on Friday, January 17 around 3:10 p.m.

Officers responded to the area of Linden Avenue and Kakely Street for the assault, police said. The driver works for Durham School Services. The boy was taken to the Albany Police Children and Family Services Unit and charged with Assault. He was released to a family member with an appearance ticket to appear in Family Court at a later date.
